Importance of Oxygen Sensor in a modern day car.  Oxygen sensor function:  The oxygen sensor is a vital part of the car emission control system. It is used to measure the percentage of oxygen in the exhaust gases coming out of the engine. Based on these measurements, the sensor sends signals to the electronic control unit (ECU) to adjust the amount of fuel and air entering the engine, which contributes to improving fuel consumption and reducing harmful emissions. Oxygen sensor malfunctions:  Some symptoms appear that may indicate a malfunction in the oxygen sensor, the most important of which are: 1. Increased fuel consumption: When the oxygen sensor malfunctions, it can send false signals that lead to an increase in the amount of fuel injected into the engine. 2. Poor engine performance: The driver may notice a weak engine response or a slowdown in acceleration due to the fuel ratio not being properly regulated. 3. Harmful emissions: A malfunction of the oxygen sensor le...
