In New Delhi, I used to ride a 2-wheeler for about a decade before I began driving a car. Now I have been driving a car for over 30 years. Ever since I relocated to Bangalore, for the last 15 years or so, I only drive a car. Given the way the traffic had been behaving, I lost the confidence to ride a 2-wheeler. However, now driving a car in Bangalore is getting tougher by the day. Apart from the increasing density of traffic and dug up roads, the principal cause is the driving habits of 2-wheeler riders. There was always an unwritten norm of maintaining a certain respectable distance from other moving vehicles. I have been experiencing a gradual dilution of this norm. It has now come to a point that many a time, 2-wheeler riders ride so close to my car that my car and the 2-wheeler morph into a third vehicle. History of Jawa and Yezdi motorcycles in India.  Ideal Jawa (India) Ltd was an Indian motorcycle company based in Mysore which sold licensed Jawa motorcycles beginning in 1960 under the brand name Jawa and from 1973 as Yezdi. The catchphrase for the bikes sold by the firm was “Forever Bike Forever Value”. The company stopped production in 1996. The Jawa motorcycle, which derived its name from the first two letters of the words Janacek, founder of the ‘Wanderer’ bike, was the darling of the motocross and rallying circuit in Europe. Production was carried out directly in India by Ideal Jawa India Ltd based out of Mysore .The Yezdi factory was located along the railway line which heads to Mysore Junction. On 2005-10-20, I too had committed a similar (if not worse) act of utter stupidity while driving my black Maruti Esteem LXi from Kolkata to Puri with my wife, daughter (8), nephew (7), father and mother on board. I was on a work cum pleasure trip with a tight schedule.  The only difference in what you see in the attached video in some foreign land vis-a-vis mine in Odisha was that I was egged on to land into the situation by other roadies (unknown to me) and scores of bystanders.  Thinking of the harrowing moments of that day while sitting at home 18 years later in June 2023 still gives me goosebumps. Siliguri to Sukna = 8 kms  (Siliguri_Sukna),  Siliguri to Kurseong = 45 kms  (Siliguri_Kurseong),  Siliguri to Ghoom = 69 kms  (Siliguri_Ghoom),  Siliguri to Darjeeling = 77 kms  (Siliguri_Darjeeling)  A signage board in Siliguri (WB) which gives roadies a decent idea of the distances and motoring route to Kurseong, Ghoom, Darjeeling.  The ubiquitous white letterings on green overhead road signages give roadies a fair idea of which place is where and the distances of places from where the photos are clicked.  Get your bearings right by reading these boards.  I (Deep Banerjee, Founder - Indian Roadie and associated forums) never use online navigation maps while on highways.
