Why does a timing chain break?

Why does a timing chain break?

Some reasons for a timing chain to break:
- Regular wear and tear: Over time, the chain stretches and weakens, eventually breaking.
- Lack of lubrication: Oil keeps the chain lubricated and reduces friction. Low oil levels or dirty oil can lead to premature wear and breakage.
- Worn chain guides or tensioners: These components keep the chain properly aligned and tensioned. Worn guides or tensioners can cause the chain to slap around, increasing wear and tear.
- Engine overheating: Extreme heat can weaken the metal in the chain, making it more susceptible to breakage.
- Manufacturing defects: In rare cases, a chain may break due to a flaw in the manufacturing process.
